The 9th Yokohama Triennale, titled Whalefall: News and Rumours from the Ocean Floor, takes inspiration from the oarfish, a creature associated with warnings of disaster, and whale fall, in which a whale’s body becomes the foundation for new life on the ocean floor. Artistic directors Cosmin Costinaș and Inti Guerrero use these images to explore how stories and information travel—from historic maritime networks to today’s internet—and to consider how new possibilities can emerge amid crisis. The exhibition will take place at the Yokohama Museum of Art from April 23 to September 12, 2027.
